Students Living Off-Grounds
Students who live in Off-Grounds housing may choose from the following types of permits:
Commuter Parking Permits
Students living off grounds will most likely park in the Commuter parking areas located at the Emmet/Ivy Garage and at University Hall. These Commuter Permits are available without having to be put on a waiting list and are priced significantly lower than the more convenient Reserved permits.
Additional Commuter Permits for the E3 lot at Scott Stadium are only available through a permit lottery system due to their limited availability. The lottery for these E3 permits is typically held in April/May of each year.
The University Transit Service provides frequent bus service to U-Hall, the Emmet/Ivy Garage, and near the Culbreth Road Garage. Please use our UTS Route Finder to find the route that would best serve your needs depending on what commuter lot you choose.

2009/2010 Permit Type: Blue (Commuter Parking - General Permit)
On-Sale Date: August 2009
Valid Dates: June 1, 2009 - May 31, 2010
Valid Locations: Commuter Lots (U-Hall, John Paul Jones Arena, Carruthers, The Park, Police Station, Visitors Center, Rehabilitation Center, Ivy Stacks, and Fontana Food Center)
Additional Locations: A10, E1, E3, and D3 after 3:30pm
Price Per Year: $192.00 (prorated $16.00 per month)
Details: Blue permits are the most easily accessible and cheapest parking permits available to students living off grounds. parking at University Hall and the John Paul Jones Arena is restricted during certain John Paul Jones Arena events, requiring permit holders to relocate to the Emmet/Ivy Garage. Please check the JPJ Impact Schedule frequently if you are a Blue permit holder. Blue permits will be available for sale on a first come, first serve basis starting May 27, 2008 at the parking and Transportation Office, located at 1101 Millmont Street, between the hours of 7:30am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday (please check the Service Schedule for holiday closings). |

2009/2010 Permit Type: EIG (Reserved Parking - Commuter Permit)
On-Sale Date: August 2009
Valid Dates: June 1, 2009 - May 31, 2010
Valid Locations: Emmet/Ivy Garage (Levels 1-3)
Price Per Year: $468.00 (prorated $39.00 per month)
Details: EIG permits valid at the Emmet/Ivy Garage, located behind the Cavalier Inn at the corner of Emmet Street and Ivy Road, will be available to off grounds students on a first come, first serve basis starting May 27, 2008. There will not be a lottery for 2009/2010 EIG permits. |

Reserved Parking Permits
Students living off-grounds are also eligible for the more convenient Reserved parking permits. Since these types of permit are in high demand, their availability is limited. Some permit types may require you to sign onto a waiting list until more permits become available. Reserved permits are also priced higher than the more readily available commuter permits.

Details: The A9 (Culbreth Road Garage) permits will be available on a first come, first serve basis for students living off grounds. There will not be a lottery for the 2009/2010 permit year. A9 permits will be available for sale starting May 27, 2008 at the Parking and Transportation Office, located at 1101 Millmont Street, from 7:30am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday (please check the Service Schedule for holiday closings). |

On-Sale Date: September 2, 2009
Valid Dates: June 1, 2009 - May 31, 2010
Valid Locations: Law School/JAG School (D3 lots near Massie Road and The Park)
Price Per Year: $468.00 (prorated $39.00 a month)
Details: D3 permits are assigned by a Permit Lottery held by the Law School. Student eligibility for the lottery is determined by the Law School's Student Bar Association (SAB) and is generally limited to third-year law students. Lottery winners may purchase the permits at the September 2, 2009 Law School permit sales. Please contact the Law School at 434-924-7354 for questions about the D3 lottery. |

Valid Locations: Law School (D22 lot off of Nash Drive)

Details: D22 permits are assigned by the Law School each year, typically in August. Those students who are selected to receive D22 permits by the Law School may purchase their permit from the main Parking and Transportation Office, located at 1101 Millmont Street, from 7:30am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday (please check the Service Schedule for holiday closings). |
